Docents

Missouri Mansion Preservation (MMP) relies on statewide volunteers to support our mission. Volunteers are instrumental in communities throughout the State of Missouri to help with events, fundraising and promotion of restoration projects.

Docents are volunteers who provide the public tour program at The Missouri Governor’s Mansion, and assist at special events throughout the year. Docents are trainers, educators, tour guides, researchers, public relations specialists and ambassadors for Jefferson City. They welcome more than 70,000 visitors annually and bring history alive at the home of The First Family.

Training

  • All Docent candidates must satisfactorily complete the Docent-training program.
  • The training program will cover training materials, recommended readings and one-on-one “shadow” opportunities with veteran Docents.
  • At least one continuing education meeting each year is required by veteran and new Docents.
  • “Coffee on Capitol Avenue” is hosted throughout the year at the MMP administrative office to provide additional education topics.

MMP appreciates volunteers to help with administrative needs, fundraising, marketing and public relations.

All volunteers must have a background check.
